Tools for SMEs to support food waste prevention

Numerous projects have been developed to help prevent food waste, but are difficult to grasp particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises. “\” therefore presents from 500 originally screened instruments those most relevant and practical to SMEs in the food sector.

Checklists, training materials, calculation tools or guidelines, if necessary translated into German, are bundled to be used by producers, retailers and out-of-home according to the following approaches: 1) Awareness-raising, 2) Planning, 3) Measuring and monitoring, 4) Measures, 5) Best practices. The platform was developed within the framework of the project “Avoiding losses in the food industry: research transfer into SME practice” sponsored by the German Federal Foundation for the Environment (DBU) and implemented by the the Institute for Sustainable Nutrition (iSuN) of the University of Münster.
